North Fork of the Stanislaus

Fishing Report for 7/5/2017

July 26, 2017 0 Comments

What a difference a week makes.  Not only is Ebbetts pass open, but the road to Spicer Reservoir is now open as well.  The flows are falling on the North Fork of the Stanislaus and many of the areas that have not been fishable are now beginning to turn on.  Good hatches of PMD’s and Caddis are happening as the flows recede and the water temperature rises.

Good numbers of quality fish are being caught at Spicer Reservoir, fish are down around 20 feet, but are looking up for bug hatches. Sinking line and stripping streamers is the way to go and rubber legs with a small trailer fly are also producing.

Lake Alpine is also producing some nice fish in good numbers, both at the dam and on the east end of the lake as well.  Streamers in Black or Olive are doing the trick.

Many of your usual spots may have changed a bit do to all the water this spring, so you may need to scout out some new spots to fish, but that is half of the fun and a big reason to go out and fish.  This is what we have been waiting for all spring, while things are late this year, we should have a great July and conditions should remain excellent into the fall.

So go out and Catch & Release some fish!
